The parish in Castilla is St. John the Baptist Parish Church. The Castilla Poblacion (town center) is known for this historic church, which stands as a symbol of the municipality’s deep religious faith and Spanish-era heritage. The church has long served as the spiritual center of the town and remains a focal point of community life, especially during major religious celebrations and the annual town fiesta in honor of St. John the Baptist, Castilla’s patron saint. With its central location near the municipal plaza and government buildings, the church continues to play an important role in preserving Castilla’s cultural identity and strengthening the close bond between faith and local tradition.
Bulan, Sorsogon, gets its name from the Bicolano word "bulan", which means "moon." It is believed that the town was named after the moon due to its bright and serene appearance over the bay
Castilla, Sorsogon, is a coastal municipality located along the shores of Sorsogon Bay, known for its productive fishing grounds and rich marine resources. The town is blessed with scenic coastal areas and nearby islands such as Malawmawan Island, which offer opportunities for fishing, boating, and nature-based activities. These natural features make Castilla a promising area for eco-tourism and coastal livelihood development in the Bicol region. The municipality also celebrates its annual town fiesta in honor of its patron saint, highlighted by religious activities, cultural presentations, street festivities, and the showcasing of local products and delicacies, reflecting the strong faith and vibrant community life of its people.
Did you know that the Municipality of Castilla, Sorsogon was originally called Bulabog before it became an independent town in 1827, making it one of the older municipalities in the province? Its name, Castilla, was taken from Castile in Spain, reflecting the strong influence of Spanish colonization and the background of early settlers. Located along the shores of Sorsogon Bay, Castilla has long been known as a fishing and coastal community, with marine resources playing a vital role in its local economy. The municipality also includes Malawmawan Island, a small island barangay that highlights its close connection to the sea. Historically, Castilla served as an important passage between Albay and Sorsogon, giving it a strategic role in regional travel and trade, while its combination of fertile farmlands and productive fishing areas continues to shape the town’s character today.
I am truly excited to introduce to you our Castilla Legislative Information and Management System—a major step forward in bringing our local government and services into the digital age. This project is designed to make our processes more transparent, efficient, and accessible to all of you.
Through the Castilla Legislative Information and Management System (LIMS), we’ll be able to keep you updated on the status of ordinances, resolutions, and other legislative matters in real-time. You’ll be able to track the progress of local laws and engage with our work more easily. This is all about making sure that you, the people we serve, are informed and involved in what’s happening in our local government.
At the same time, our Castilla Legislative Information and Management System will help improve access to our town’s library resources. Whether you’re a student, teacher, or just someone who loves to read, this system will make it easier for you to search for and borrow books and other learning materials. We hope this will open up more opportunities for education and personal growth, especially in today’s world where access to information is key.
This is just the beginning, and we’re excited about the potential it brings to our town. As your Vice Mayor, I am committed to making sure that we keep moving forward and providing better services for all Castillanos.
Let’s continue to work together for a better, more progressive Castilla
Mabuhay an Castilla!
HON. Mayor Bong Mendoza
